There is a new tidal wave in the world of sports. Squash has
made a triumphant entry into the greater sports venue. This
highly competitive and fast paced game is finding it's way into
courts everywhere. It is dominating fitness clubs, schools, and
even has developed a professional association. While squash has
a rich history, it is only recently that this sport has become a
popular past time world wide. Squash finds its roots in 16th
century France. The game is quite different now, and continues
to evolve as many other sports have.
Different Squash associations have varying rules from one
another. There is also a Junior Squash variation which carries
its own regulations. Junior Squash has become a huge part of the
educational system. The game play and equipment remain the same,
in the junior level, as in its adult counterpart. At this level
players enjoy the competition and also the health benefits
associated with the sport. The competitive edge dominates the
court. With professional players offering tips for these young
competitors, the game is made easier for the youth.
The court is divided into three primary sections. These sections
apply only during a serve. The first is the front section which
covers the front half of the court. The other half is divided
quarters that define a player's area. Each of these quarters has
a serve box that defines the area in which a competitor can
serve from. The ball is played off of the front wall. It is
volleyed between the opponents. When one of them misses or hits
the ball out it is a point for the other side. Matches determine
tournament and conference winners. It can be played with two
players for a singles match, or with four for doubles.
With the growth of this sport, suppliers and manufacturers have
gotten in on the action. Companies like Dunlop, Prince, Head,
and Wilson have brought a wide variety of supplies to the market
for Squash. Rackets and balls can be found nearly anywhere that
sporting goods are sold. Many fitness centers and specialty
stores also have Squash clothing available. They have become
fairly inexpensive so that it is more accessible to people of
all ages and backgrounds. Squash is continuing to grow, and may
even appear in the 2016 Olympics, as it is being lobbied
currently. This game is on the move today.
