Squash is an extremely vigorous sport and the clothing worn
by the players must give them freedom of movement and be both
comfortable and practical.
There are no hard and fast rules for what can and can't be worn
on the squash court and, generally, people in engaged in
friendly games dress casually with men in shorts and tshirts and
women in either a sports dress or some combination of shorts,
skirts, skorts, tshirts or tank-tops. Toweling headbands and /
or wristbands can also be worn if required and eyewear in the
form of polycarbon lens goggles is recommended as squash balls
can come flying at you at speeds of up to 170 miles per hour.
And your squash outfit would not be complete without a pair of
non-marking indoor sports shoes.
Apart from manufacturing squash rackets, balls and other
equipment, the leading sports' companies also have squash
apparel, accessories and branded promotional gear on sale to the
public. Prince Sports is by far the leading manufacturer of
squash gear and has a wide range of articles for both men and
women. Men's apparel includes shirts (crew, polo, sleeveless and
longsleeve), woven shorts, warm up long pants and caps while the
women get to choose from several styles of tank tops and skorts.
They also offer shoes, eyewear, wristbands and headbands as well
as promotional branded tshirts, hoodies and zipper hoodies.
Rivaling but not quite matching the Prince squash clothing
line-up is the Asics brand of sports apparel. Asics men's wear
includes long sleeve shirts and short sleeved run shirts while
for women they have singlets and run tops. They also have both
men's and women's pocketed shorts and squash socks.
Other leading sports manufacturers like Wilson Squash, Head,
Ektelon and Dunlop are also active in the apparel market with
Dunlop offering eyewear and wristbands to players while Wilson
concentrates on men's and women's shoes. While also offering
eyewear and men and women's shoes, Head Squash includes shoes
for junior players among its wares. Ektelon, on the other hand,
appears to offer gloves as its only squash accessory.
A junior player should take tips from established competition
players as to what clothing, accessories and shoes would be the
best for them to wear at any given point in their careers. But
they should also remember that it is their technique and
equipment that will help them win, not their outfits.
